BOOKS UNFOLLOWED

This sculptural piece aspires to present the movement of time in the form of social media. While initially books were almost a common subconscious, shared and relished by all, this has now transitioned into digital media. Therefore, to expose the disintegration of this hobby I have literally deconstructed each page of a book, carving out portraits and distorting them with digitally inspired screens. This is the physical expression of the manner in which intangible digital platforms are replacing all that was tangible. More specifically, I have focused on filter forward experience of Snapchat and it’s impact on the youth of the 21st century. Being a millennial myself, I have experienced a number of my peers facing a disconnect with who they truly are, constantly being dependent on filters to literally filter out their appearance.

TITLE- BOOKS UNFOLLOWED

"To the loss of tangibility,
To a digital age where all is virtual,
To the masks of filters filtering our authenticity,
To a profile on-screen but a person off-screen,
To following looks and unfollowing books,

Save the book-drop the look."
