THE POWERS OF SHAMANISM

“If you are powerful there is no place where disease can enter”. Showcasing an aesthetic metamorphosis based on the theme of Shamanism, this Fall/Winter collection reflects the spiritual transformative experience of individuals enduring a Shamanic encounter, a titillating visual space that mediates between the world of humans and the world of spirits. It is said that two main causes of illness are either- that a person has something within them that should not be there or is missing something that should be there- shamans access the unassuming universes of good and evil spirits, entering a trance like state in order to heal people.

The ubiquitous nature of transitional healing and soul retrieval, form the thematic epicenters for this collection. The theme led to the various design choices, introducing a constricted and heavy look with a sense of numbness and distress reflected in the opaque, layered and wrapped silhouettes. These heavy weight configurations were juxtaposed with contrasting, light, patterned etched fabrics, oozing out from laser cut fabrications, representing the idea of breaking free. Sheer nude and fragile textiles expose hints of skin, healing the wearer to a state of peace, resolution and understanding.
